A few Walks

I forgot to post these pictures of cobwebs last week, I love the beauty of them in the early morning when the dew gives them substance.

And here's one showing the tenacity of nature, a fern growing in a crack in a wall, just  by the Leechwell in Totnes.

I've been in writing mode this week, and put about 5000 words onto my new story. When I need inspiration I just go up towards Sharkham, about 10 minutes walk from home and breathe in the air, fresh from the Atlantic.

We also went for a walk at Meadfoot in Torquay, looking back across the bay we could see Berry Head and Brixham in the sunlight.

What a view they must have

And then there was the Dartmoor walk, Haytor to be precise, from the top you can see Berry Head again

It hasn't come out very clearly, this was taken on my phone so I couldn't zoom it so much but it's just right of centre.. Honest!

Things are getting a little hectic here, I have the book coming out in a month, Well Bread! is going strong and there's all the usual mundane life stuff to keep under control.

I tried a new loaf for Friday's delivery, a White (refined) Spelt Sourdough Baguette, it involved converting a portion of my Spelt starter from Wholemeal to White, then making the dough but I think they came out pretty well. All were ordered so I didn't get chance to taste one, hopefully I'll find out on Monday.

I've been invited to guest blog on someones website next month so have 1000 words of my choice to do for that. I'm also giving a talk at Oats (about Bread of course) on October 28th. I think I was less busy when I worked full-time. And then there's the book promotion events to organise. And the new book to write.

Don't forget to check out the new website www.richarddeescifi.co.uk for more information on the book and also details of an Earlybird offer if you buy it direct from me.

  3. Hi Richard

Well done with the dried pear. Are you going to experiment with your own dried fruit and spice mixture fruit/tea sourdough loaf the type that can be cut and eaten with butter or toasted and dribbled with butter. If you dried your own fruits and prepared your own blend of fruit and spice it would make your own mix - to make your loaves even more individual or to be used in a home made bread and butter pudding there is a lot of scope there. You know me I always see the potential in things. I was going to say that since "retirement" you have been busier than ever. I am so pleased for you and I hope the book launch goes well. Hope you and Yvonne are keeping well - I am slowly getting back into the swing of things. The Land Love and Landscape Magazines although a little pricey are what I call proper coffee table magazines glorious pictures and some wonderful articles. Both publications have fantastic recipes and there is food for thought and lots of potential experimentation with those recipes although glorious in their own right. They have a Pear/Elderberry and Ginger loaf recipe in the Landscape November/December edition and some other tasty sounding recipes. Wondered if these publications would help with your recipe creating - a different path and process.

Now must get on and return to the work I have created for myself in the kitchen. Catch up soon.

Regards to both you and Yvonne
